Shock occurs when there is insufficient blood circulating around the body to maintain enough pressure to keep the body’s tissues supplied with oxygen. It is a life-threatening medical emergency.
Symptoms and signs of shock
- Pale, cool, clammy skin; feeling thirsty
- Rapid and shallow breathing
- Rapid, weak pulse
- Collapse and unconsciousness
Management:
- Call 115
- If the victim is conscious, lay down on back, lift up the legs
- If the victim is unconscious, lay down on side, lift up the legs.
