BLEEDING – DEEP CUT ON THE LIMB

Step 1

 

Apply direct pressure to the wound using your hands.

Step 2

 

Use a wet dressing, a non-stick dressing, or a clean cloth to cover the wound.

Step 3

 

Then use the bandage to apply pressure to the wound to stop the bleeding. If you see bright red blood seeping through the bandage, do not remove the bandage. Use another bandage to apply more pressure to stop the bleeding.

Shock

Shock occurs when there is insufficient blood circulating around the body to maintain enough pressure to keep the body’s tissues supplied with oxygen. It is a life-threatening medical emergency.

Symptoms and signs of shock

  • Pale, cool, clammy skin; feeling thirsty
  • Rapid and shallow breathing
  • Rapid, weak pulse
  • Collapse and unconsciousness

Management:

  • Call 115
  • If the victim is conscious, lay down on back, lift up the legs
  • If the victim is unconscious, lay down on side, lift up the legs.
